career guidance

ERA Foundation launched its career counselling platform MARG – Exploring Careers, Unlocking Potential’s on August 23rd, 2019.

The MARG tool provides a very unique and simple career guidance test for senior secondary students and can be taken online or in offline mode. This test is unique because unlike other career counselling tests, this tool is not limited to psychometric and aptitude of the students, but also considers the subjects taught in the school viz. Science, Math, Social Science, and English. MARG is available in 6 Indian Languages apart from English (i.e. Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Marathi). A student who takes the test will get a 20-page customised report recommending the best studied career options and vocations.

On the occasion of the launch Mr. P. Muralidhar, the CEO of the ERA Foundation, announced that Government of Karnataka and ERA Foundation had entered into an MoU to implement the MARG career counselling test in 1000 Government schools, benefitting about 50,000 students across Karnataka.

The Guest of Honour Shri SR Umashankar IAS, Principal Secretary Primary and Secondary Education, Government of Karnataka and the Chief Guest Dr. MR Jayaram, Chairman of Comedk unveiled the MARG platform by appreciating the initiative taken by ERA Foundation.

At the launch event, Shri SR Umashankar said “Government of Karnataka has always been at the forefront of education initiatives. Our Initiative with the MARG Platform will benefit 50,000 students across all districts. We hope to expand this in the coming years to cover the entire student population. I wish Marg and ERA all the best for the initiative.”

Dr. Jayaram, Chairman of Comedk was exceedingly pleased with the tie-up and expressed gratitude to the Karnataka government. The Chairman of Comedk said "The Marg Counselling effort will not only benefit the students immensely but will also improve the quality of higher education by ensuring that students take up courses that they have a penchant for. A correct fit of capabilities to courses would ensure student's success in the long run.

The CEO Mr. Muralidhar gave a brief insight into the education landscape of Karnataka and how it will put things in perspective. He said "We spent almost two years to design this test For students. Around 30 teachers and 40 counselors worked to form a questionnaire to incorporate in the test. Students can choose to write it either offline or online. This idea was born out of a concern that most private school students have the option of career counseling within the campus but government school students, especially in the rural areas, lack this option. To ensure good reach, we decided to make it a multilingual test — available in English and six regional languages such as Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali. For now, we have only tied up with the Government of Karnataka to implement this test and by December, we aim to sign an MoU with a few other state governments."

The MARG platform launch was attended and appreciated by prominent Career Counsellors, teachers as well as principals of key schools.
